Jeremy Barnes
Jeremy Barnes
Founder & CTO
An engineer, researcher, computer scientist and runner, in that order, Jeremy loves a challenge. He has started two companies specializing in the use of machine learning to solve real world problems using real world data—Idilia Inc and Datacratic (previously Recoset). At Idilia, he invented many of the linguistic algorithms and the core architecture of the technology, which was built on top of a fast, flexible, machine learning library called JML (Jeremy’s Machine Learning library). In 2009, Jeremy co-founded Datacratic, where he has continued to lead the way and innovate in the field of real-time machine learning. He studied at Australian National University, and was awarded the University Medal for his Engineering degree. He turned down a prestigious Regent’s scholarship from University of California, choosing instead to implement his ideas at Idilia. He has two patents pending on the key ideas of Idilia’s system. Jeremy recently placed second in the international GitHub data analysis contest, and third in the AUSDM data mining competition.

Christine Desmarais
Senior Machine Learning Specialist
Christine is one of the few people we know who opted not to stay in sunny California where she studied and worked… on account of the weather. In addition to winter, Christine is drawn to challenges involving both mathematics and creative thought, making her a natural fit for the Research and Development team. A Rhodes Scholar, Christine initially sharpened her business acumen as a management consultant. However her geekiness got the better of her: she has since worked on flight simulators and conducted neuroscience research in grasp control. Christine obtained a Masters degree in Computational Mathematics at Stanford University and is delighted to be exploring ideas at Datacratic which she encountered in assistive AI research.
